I’m surprised these types of television commercials don’t get made fun of more often in comic strips. They’re actually a gold mine for humorous stabs at human insecurity (Disclaimer: I’m not calling you insecure; just some people). I don’t know for sure when the proverbial door-to-door salesman first found permanent lodging in most people’s homes, but it was probably sometime around when the first newspaper ads began to regularly show up. And that salesman has just gotten more and more prominent with the innovation of radio, television, cyberspace, etc.!
